Downtown Music Hub Launches Pilot Music Business Incubator Programme

Downtown Music Hub is proud to announce the launch of its groundbreaking pilot music business incubator programme. Spanning a period of nine months, the programme aims to empower and uplift professionals within the music industry by providing them with the skills, support, and resources necessary for success. Going beyond being just a recording facility, Downtown Music Hub is dedicated to supporting the growth and development of individuals involved in the music industry value chain, including artists, producers, writers, engineers, and more.

The core objectives of the incubator programme are twofold. Firstly, it seeks to develop music industry entrepreneurs by equipping them with the necessary skills and support to participate in all activities and functions of the music industry value chain. Secondly, the programme aims to enable participants to commercialize their content and music productions, maximizing the potential revenue from their creative endeavours.

Participants in the incubator programme will have the opportunity to deepen their understanding of the ever-changing music industry and connect with key industry players. They will also benefit from a range of advantages, including back-office support to ensure compliance with government institutions and funders, access to Downtown Music Hub facilities at preferential rates, and the opportunity to learn from experienced music industry professionals.

The incubator programme will offer a unique framework for participants to develop their ideas and enhance their products or services. Through flexible coaching, mentoring, and matchmaking sessions, as well as online and in-person networking activities, participants will be equipped with the necessary tools to succeed in the music industry.

Who can be part of the incubator? Downtown Music Hub is inviting artist entrepreneurs, self-employed individuals, small and medium-sized companies, and business professionals who offer sustainable solutions to the music sector. Additionally, entrepreneurs who are on the brink of creating a new service, product, or company related to the music sector are also encouraged to apply.

To be eligible for the programme, applicants must have a registered company in South Africa or operate as a Sole Proprietorship. They must demonstrate a minimum of 18 months of operational history, either before or after the COVID-19 pandemic. Additionally, applicants must have reasonable plans for the next 12 months and be willing to provide monthly progress reports to Downtown Music Hub, including financials and employment figures.

Interested individuals and companies are invited to submit the application form, available on the Downtown Music Hub website  by June 22, 2023, at 23:59.

“We are thrilled to launch the pilot music business incubator programme at Downtown Music Hub,” said Ms Mpume Mabuza, CEO at Downtown Music Hub. “Through this initiative, we aim to empower and uplift professionals within the music industry by providing them with the necessary support, resources, and expertise to thrive.
