LISTEN: JMPD ZOOMING IN ON CRIMINALS WITH NEW UNDERCOVER UNIT
Written by staff reporter (POWER987) 15 MAY 2019
CCTV cameras are all good and well, but what use are they without a response team?
The City of Johannesburg is cracking down on crime and has realised this, deploying a dedicated undercover unit to respond to what the cameras record.
It has more than 400 CCTV surveillance cameras operating in the Joburg inner city, with a new undercover unit of 80 Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) officers deployed to solely deal with illegal activity picked up on camera.
POWER Breakfast was in conversation with the Johannesburg MMC for Public Safety Michael Sun, who says the officers were handpicked to ensure crime is attended to immediately.
