Joburg CBD is slowly shaking off its ‘hellhole’ status — thanks to the private sector

“The private sector and various organisations have come to the rescue, even enforcing bylaws.

The JICP has established a pilot route for the Walkable Network covering Main and Fox Streets (east/west) and Joubert and Rissik Streets (north/south). The route already has a strong pedestrian presence, with some pedestrian-focused projects underway. The intention, Van Niekerk said, is for the pilot to integrate with and support existing interventions along the route.”
