Boundless City is a social enterprise that focuses on community-based urban development in the Joburg Inner City through public art projects and public space development and programming. These initiatives focus on creating employment while enhancing public spaces.
Boundless City has two projects underway as part of the Social Employment Fund. They have set up and are running a library and afterschool homework programme in the Anstey’s Building, which is home to over 250 Inner City residents. The space is ideal for the project.
Their second initiative is at the Ernest Oppenheimer Park where Boundless City have run a basketball league (Hoop Mania) since 2013. Community members are now being rewarded for taking ownership of the safety in the area, making the park more user friendly and active. Along with these Safety Ambassadors who have been trained by SAPs, Boundless City are also in the process of adding new public art to the space.
